Born to a small pack, Alder lived most of his early years in a period of famine. His pack had diffiiculties bringing down enough prey, and often was forced to enter the territories of others to find food. Because of this, Alder is both a skilled hunter and a fierce, determined fighter. Numerous days in which he went hungry as a pup left him small and scrawny, something he uses to his advantage. Frequently underestimated, he is resourceful and will stop at nothing to have his way. The small-pack mentality caused him to be the loyal wolf he is today. Alder values friendship and teamwork above all. He is the sort of wolf to do anything for a friend, putting his life on the line to keep them safe. Becoming Alder's friend is difficult, however. He can be mistrusting, anti-social, and even bitter at times.

As time went on, his pack gradually collapsed. Even with their tight bonds, the pack could not withstand the hardships of living by themselves. After the alpha male was killed in an accident while hunting, the pack disbanded. Alder, knowing he probably could not survive as a loner, chose to search out another pack, and it was this search that brought him to the Warriors.
